Which locks work well for a front door?
An ANSI Grade 1 deadbolt — like Schlage B60/B80, Medeco Maxum, or Mul-T-Lock Hercular — paired with a reinforced strike plate and 3-inch screws.
Grade ratings tell you a lot: Grade 3 is builder basic, Grade 2 is mid-range, Grade 1 is commercial-strength. Upgrading to Grade 1 on entry doors is a worthwhile step for added security.
The lock is only as strong as the door frame. A reinforced strike plate with 3-inch screws into the stud helps block a common forced-entry method: kicking.
Smart deadbolts can work well for front doors as long as they're Grade 2 or better and you keep the app and codes secured. Apex, NC homes do well with Schlage Encode or Yale Assure SL.
